A set of high qualitv drawings of'coins struck by the Baronies of Haldenstein and
Reichenau GR, Switzerland, is preserved in the Cantonal Archives of Grisons,
Coire, signature STAGR B 1540/11. Rudolf von Salis-Haldenstein (1750-1781), a
son of the last minting Baron of Haldenstein, had these pieces documented in Den
Haag, Netherlands, among them test strokes and coins otherwise unknown. His
interest in the history and the coinage of his Barony brought him in contact with
Gottlieb Emanuel von Haller (1735-1786). His letters to this great scholar and
fatherly friend, preserved in the Burgerbibliothek Bern, provide many interesting
and detailed informations far beyond the monetary history of Haldenstein.
